In Brooklyn, a State Committee Member is also called a “District Leader.” State Committee members are unpaid elected positions within the New York State Democratic Party. Each Assembly District has a male and female committee member, elected each even-numbered year to serve 2-year terms. Each state committee member serves as a delegate to the New York State Democratic State Committee. In Kings County (Brooklyn), each state committee member also serves on the Executive Committee of the Kings County (Brooklyn) Democratic Party and serve as delegates to the New York State Democratic Committee.
What is a State Committee Member?
As a member of the Executive Committee of the Kings County Democratic County Committee, collectively, they elect the County Chairperson. Currently, the Democratic County Chairman is Frank Seddio of the 59th Assembly District.
State committee members have the responsibility for staffing poll sites within the district they represent for all elections. They also identify and encourage candidates for other public and party offices.
