I am a member of my local police precinct council so I hear firsthand the issue of police-community relations.
In the 68th Precinct, there are now less than 100 cops ‘on the beat.’ We need more police officers on the streets and from the neighborhoods they patrol so residents know that they are really are here to actually “protect and serve.”
I want more of our kids to get involved in Police Athletic Leagues so they grow up knowing officers are not people of whom to be to be afraid.
Finally, I am a strong believer in alternative sentencing. We should be going after the root causes of crime like poverty, drug addiction, and mental illness to actually prevent crime and reduce recidivism.
